The growth story is real, and that is exactly why the risk story matters

OpenAI’s enterprise numbers are not subtle. The company says enterprise is now more than 40% of revenue and on track to reach parity with consumer by the end of 2026. APIs process more than 15 billion tokens per minute. OpenAI’s Axios incident was a preview of the autonomous-company problem

The Axios compromise matters because it was boring in exactly the right way. This was not movie-hacker drama. OpenAI’s writeup says the affected workflow touched signing material for ChatGPT Desktop, Codex, Codex CLI, and Atlas. The company found no evidence of actual misuse, but still treated the certificate as compromised, rotated it, blocked future notarization with the old material, coordinated with Apple, and gave users a 30-day update window before the old certificate would become effectively dead. The coalition includes AWS, Apple, Broadcom, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Google, JPMorganChase, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Palo Alto Networks, plus support for over 40 additional organizations that maintain critical software infrastructure. Anthropic also committed up to $100 million in usage credits and $4 million in direct donations to open-source security organizations.

That is not marketing fluff. That is capital allocation around a thesis: defensive AI is becoming core infrastructure.

Anthropic’s claim is even sharper. The company says Claude Mythos Preview found thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities, including issues across major operating systems and browsers, and cites benchmark gains such as 83.1% on cybersecurity vulnerability reproduction versus 66.6% for Claude Opus 4.6. Even if you discount the vendor optimism, the direction is obvious. Frontier models are moving from “helpful assistant” to “credible offensive and defensive security worker.”

That changes the operating model of every autonomous company. Security is no longer a compliance department that arrives after product-market fit. It is part of the production system.
